If you’re like me, one of the best theme of sneaker collaborations is anime. Anime sneakers are not hard to find, but sometimes you just come across some extremely great pairs that make you want to impulse buy.
We’ve all been there. In this post I present to you 4 pairs of anime-inspired sneakers that are so on point that you might physically gasp.
1. Nike Air Jordan 6 Retro “Slam Dunk” (2014)
Okay, this is GREAT. This is the best collaboration concept imaginable:
Everyone’s favorite basketball-themed anime teams up with everyone’s favorite line of sneakers co-made by everyone’s favorite NBA legend.
The design introduces the classic Air Jordan 4 silhouette to the signature Shohoku uniform color scheme. Dressed in sharp red, the upper is crafted with premium leather. At the ankle you find the “10” lettering, which references Hanamichi Sakuragi’s jersey number.
Streams of translucent icy blue can be found across the shoe, adding a sense of speed and chicness.
In terms of quality and fan inclusiveness, this collaboration is a slam dunk.
2. ‘Dragon Ball Z’ x adidas Collection (2018)
Sometimes anime-inspired designs don’t have to be in your face. Take the ‘Dragon Ball Z’ x adidas collection as example, they executed the design so well that it’s perfect for everyday wear.
The designers incorporated color palettes of the iconic Dragon Ball Z characters into their timeless silhouettes to build this exciting collection.
One of the highlights is the “Frieza” colorway, as it is the perfect balance of quirkiness and wearability. On one hand you can tell its reference to Frieza, on the other it’s not overwhelmingly flashy.
If you’re looking for anime-inspired designs that are not too literal, the ‘Dragon Ball Z’ x adidas collection is for you.
3. ‘Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’ x Vans Collection (2019)
Yes, this is definitely a Jojo reference.
If you’re not familiar with the franchise, ‘Golden Wind’ is the latest animated installment from the long-running Jojo saga. Partly known for their fashion forwardness, Jojo characters make great design inspirations.
The ‘Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’ x Vans collection comes with the striking “Giorno Giovanna” and “Bruno Buccellati” colorways. They are instantly recognizable, featuring each character’s outfit elements.
While the magenta pair features Giorno Giovanna’s luxurious velvety outfit, the other pair goes for a simplistic look with the teardrop pattern that is patented by Bruno Buccellati.
Given how great the shoes look, it’d be awesome if Vans expands the collection in the future.
4. ‘Sailor Moon’ x Skechers Collection (2020)
This would be every Sailor Moon fan’s dream come true.
Catering to the current craze for chunky soles, the collection features a youthful silhouette that appeals to its target demographic. Each pair features the signature color scheme of their respective Sailor Guardian and tops it off with satin bow shoelaces.
Even if you’re not a fan of the more cutesy style, you can still appreciate the lovely and faithful designs this collection offers.
