Shoes make just as much as a statement as clothes and jewelry. Keeping these in mint condition is important to both men and women. Many of us can identify walking away from certain paths and cleaning our shoes often to ensure they remain pristine.

Still, the unavoidable can happen. Even with all our efforts, scuff marks can appear.

You might be reading this because you are having a difficult time removing it. Keep reading to learn how to get rid of scuff marks on shoes.

Warning: Know Your Material First

The last thing you want to do is attempt to fix something only to make the problem worse. Before you try any of these methods when you want to find out how to fix scuffed shoes, know the type of material your shoes are made of.

Nike shoes are made out of quality polyester, cotton, rubber, leather, and synthetic leather. They are softer and more pliable to move and wear compared to standard leather shoes.

Because of this, you want to use gentler methods when cleaning it. The same goes for other quality brand name shoes like Jordans or Adidas made from other materials like PU and TPU

Use Baking Soda

Baking soda is an effective way to get rid of marks on your shoes. Another bonus you get with using it is that it will help eliminate odors. Not only will your shoes sparkle, but you also will not have to worry about being conscious during moments you need to remove them.

You can create a baking soda solution by diluting 2 tablespoons of baking soda in some warm water. Be sure to mix the product well until it creates a paste. You want to work it directly on the scuff marks. It makes a big difference to use two cloths.

Use the first cloth to polish and remove the unattractive marks and another cloth to wipe the product and remaining residue away. You will get a cleaner finish leaving one end of the cloth damp before dabbing it dry.

Use an Eraser

The last thing you would think about to use for shoe scuff removal is an eraser, but it does work. Erasers work best on vinyl shoes over small or lightly marked areas.

If you have suede shoes, you can also do the same, but use a brush to get rid of trapped dirt first. You may be surprised by how well this works.

Use Dish Detergent

This is one idea many people may think about, and the notion is correct. Dish detergent is great at removing tough stains, but you want to get the right brands such as Dawn. This is one of the gentlest methods you can use to eliminate scuff marks.

It works well on all types of material as well. However, you do want to avoid using it for shoes made from silky material like satin. When you are using this method make sure not to dilute the dish detergent too much.

Only mix it with a few drops of warm water. You can start scrubbing any of the marks you see away with a cloth. Use a different cloth to wipe everything away.

Use Toothpaste

Toothpaste works well at attacking stains on your teeth and it can do the same for the scuff marks on your shoes. It is best to use toothpaste on canvas-covered white shoes. There is no need to dilute the toothpaste when you use it.

Be mindful of the type of toothpaste you use. Refrain from using any whitening, gel, or chemical-heavy toothpaste. You can apply the toothpaste onto the area of concern and work it in.

It is best to use a cloth for cleaning shoes to ensure you do not destroy the material as you clean it. Refrain from pairing this job with a toothbrush unless you are working with shoes made from sturdier material. Allow the shoes to air dry after you finish wiping it clean.

Use Nail Polish Remover

Nail polish removers are just as great at removing scuff marks as they are removing nail polish. A little goes a long way too. You only need to apply a small amount on a cloth or cotton ball and let the product do its job as you polish it.

To get the best results, you want to focus on using the nail polish remover on the areas that need it only. You can protect the rest of your shoes with some petroleum jelly or baby powder. This method works well on a variety of materials. Feel free to try it on your tennis shoes or leather shoes.

Use Petroleum Jelly

Petroleum jelly is also great for helping you remove stubborn scuff marks on some shoes. Ideally, you want to reserve using this method for cleaning shoes made out of leather. Add some to a cloth and rub it into areas that need it. Finish it off by wiping your shoes with a clean, damp cloth.

Use a Scuff-Remover

There are also products available you can find in shoe stores to remove scuff marks and clean your shoes. Some removers take out the guesswork and tell you which materials they work on.

This may be ideal for shoe owners who are uncertain they can use any of the previous methods safely. Most scuff removers are liquid that you can spray on or apply on a cloth.
