Are Yeezy Slides Worth It?

Whether you’re a hardcore Yeezys fan or feel like you could do without them, there’s no denying that Kanye West and Adidas have revolutionized the footwear industry.

When Yeezys first made their way onto the scene in 2013, people realized that there was more than meets the eye with running shoes. Instead of looking at the sneakers as practical footwear, more and more people began seeing them as a fashion statement.

Six years later, West and Adidas have taken the world by storm once again with their latest drop of Yeezy Slides.

So, what is it about Yeezys that keeps people interested? There are many factors that play into the ever-trending shoe, like the style, fit, maintenance, and colorways.

In the past, different models sold out within a minute of being released despite their steep cost of $350.

Keep reading to see if these new Yeezy Slides are worth spending a pretty penny on!

How Kanye West Keeps Killing the Shoe Game

Kanye West’s partnership with Adidas is not his first gig designing shoes. His efforts in the footwear industry date all the way back to 2009 when he designed what is now considered the most valuable sneaker in the world.

Louis Vuitton

Back in 2009, the rapper-turned-mogul released a collaboration with luxury brand Louis Vuitton. This is when his astonishing impact on the shoe and fashion industry began.

He helped design the Jasper sneaker, which has a mid-top silhouette made of suede and leather. The colorway on this shoe is gray with the standout hot pink rubber sole. The classic LV is embossed on the bottom of the sole and the luxury brand’s iconic symbols are also embossed on the side.

The Louis Vuitton Jasper sneaker was the first design West contributed to the shoewear industry. Initially retailed for just under $1,000, Jasper is now the most valuable sneaker in the world, selling for up to $50,000. It’s safe to say the man knows what he’s doing.

Nike

Ye also had a deal with Nike in 2009, in which he created two sneaker models: the Air Yeezy 1 and the Air Yeezy 2. These shoes initially retailed for around $215 and immediately sold out at the time of their release. Like his LV collaboration, the Air Yeezys are some of the rarest and valuable sneakers in the world. They now have a resale value of up to $4,000.

In 2013, West’s Nike partnership ended over creative differences. As a result, he signed a $10 million deal with Adidas, and thus the Yeezys we know today were born.

Adidas

Like his past collaborations, Yeezys have only gone up in value after their initial releases. In 2013, the first-ever shoe to drop was the Yeezy Boost 750. The 750s retailed at $350 and sold out within the first 10 minutes of their release.

Since then, Kanye West and Adidas have dropped several Yeezy clothing lines and different sneaker models such as:

  • Yeezy Boost 350
  • Yeezy 950
  • Yeezy 350 Cleat
  • Yeezy Powerhouse Calabasas
  • Yeezy Boost 700
  • Yeezy 500
  • Yeezy Boost 380
  • Yeezy Foam Runner

The Yeezy Slides originally retailed for $55 and seem to be the first sandal-like lounge shoe in West’s collection. Like other Yeezy models, the value in these shoes has increased since the time of their release, but it begs the question: are they really worth all the hype?

Here are some factors to consider when buying the new Yeezy Slides.

Colorways

Colorways play a huge part in how quickly certain designs and models sell out. The Yeezy Slides, which first dropped in 2019, came in two different colorways:  “Resin” and “Bone.” Later on, two new colorways, “Earth Brown” and “Desert Sand,” were introduced. Every Yeezy colorway is commonly minimalistic or in a neutral tone.

The “Resin” colorway is a light sage green while “Bone” is a light ivory shade like the name implies. “Desert Sand” is slightly darker than “Bone” and is a muted beige tone while “Earth Brown” is the darkest shade in the collection.

Style

What designates Yeezy as a unique brand is its innovative minimalistic approach to otherwise normal products. The Yeezy Slides are no different. They have a croc-like texture but look sleek and modern, which is what sets them apart from other slides on the market.

The shoe itself is said to be made of injected EVA foam and algae to “provide lightweight durability.” When stepping into the shoe, the soft top of its footbed provides comfort for the heel. Meanwhile, the outer sole’s ribbed groove placement not only helps with comfort but traction while walking.

Fit and Comfortability

The shoe seems to be pretty normal when it comes to length, but the width is pretty narrow. Because of this, the fit is pretty snug (especially if you have wider feet). The Yeezy Slide is only available in full sizes, so you might want to size up to be safe.

The slides will come out of the box kind of stiff. You might have to break them in so your foot could adhere to the croc-like EVA foam. After about a full day of wear, the shoe should form right to the shape of your foot.

If you take these tips into consideration, the slide should fit comfortably!

Maintenance

If you’re planning to drop a serious amount of cash on Yeezys, you need to make sure you’re prepared to take proper care of them. After all, who wouldn’t want their expensive footwear to last a long time with minimal damage?

Because of the material, the shoe is relatively easy to clean. If you don’t already have one, we recommend investing in a sneaker cleaner kit. In other instances, a gentle brush with soap and water should clean them well enough.

If you choose to use a brush to clean, make sure that the bristles aren’t harsh as that can scuff the shoe. There’s no way to repair the scuffs if the shoes are damaged, so be gentle!
