Our Complete Review of the Adidas NMD R1

Footwear technology has advanced tremendously over the past decade; Shoes no longer have to rely on hard cupsoles or blocked EVA foam midsoles. Uppers do not cut, sewn, or assembled.

In the end, it boils down to comfort. Which is better for the legs – a bold and heavy sneaker made of hard rubber, or does the 9-ounce sneaker use an Uber-Kushi ride with a soft mesh top and bottom?

When you bring old school aesthetics and new shoe technology together, you can keep your cake and eat.

The Adidas NMD R1 is a perfect example of that concept in practice. Many Adidas shoes in the ’80s used color-blocked mitzvah inserts for support. On that day, the EVA mitzvahs lost cushioning and lost within a few hundred miles. Foam inserts slow down the process when adding colored papaya to otherwise mild mitochondria (s).

There were many vintage Adidas shoes featuring mitzvah blocks. The most popular of them all is the 1984 microprocessor, the running shoe, hidden on its tongue with a digital pedometer. Models like the Adidas Fire, Richfield, Boston Super, and Rising Star had color-blocking foam inserts of different foam densities

There are a few vintage elements at the top. The plastic wrap on the heel features the words ‘brand with three stripes’ printed on the heel grass tab with the logo on the trefoil.

You may already know this, but the ‘NMT’ in Shoe’s name is an abbreviated version of Nomad, which is used to describe consumer groups who want to travel and explore or at least want to do so.

‘Urban Explorer’ is a travel-inspired design mood-board often used in the footwear industry. While the Adidas NMD R1 attracts some inspiration with its stabilizing foam inserts and safety outsole, the modern Ultraboost ADR is a clear example. Other examples are variations of the Nike React element or its average line.

The shoe in this review is not ‘OG’ NMD, but an updated version. Although the two were very similar, the first version had a knit collar band. Also on sale is a Primkinit version, which is closer to the original NMT in price and top design.

Wearing Experience

Adidas is honest about its product position – it’s a lifestyle sneaker, nothing more than that.

As far as lifestyle sneakers go, Adidas NMD_R1 is the most comfortable and supportive type. NMT OG arrived almost a year after Ultraboost, so consumers accustomed to boost cushioning will know what they are.

The NMD_R1 has a different ride quality than the Ultraboost. It makes the heel slightly firmer and more supportive. Here is why:

EVA foam inserts on either side of the heel are not color-blocking decorations. They are connected under the other side in a U-shape so they work better than you expect.

This creates a stabilizing file on the foot and sets it up in support of the ride. Unlike Ultraboost, the soft boost mitzvah is attached directly to the top.

The NMT R1 has no removable insole; Insole is a durable doubling. The cut windows in it make it flexible and allow you to enjoy the boost foam under the foot. This is a design formula that Adidas has been using for a very long time – this is what we first saw in 2014 PurePost.

An insole shoe is always firmer than a shoe. The second layer of foam under the foot makes a huge difference in gradual comfort, and this is one of the main reasons it feels softer or smoother than UltraPhos NMT. Perhaps, ‘silk’ is the right word here instead of ‘soft’.

Sure, no one is stopping you from adding the insole you choose, but be aware that it can be inappropriate and narrow. The thickness of the aftermarket football will eat where it is available.

The outsole is a factor. Depending on the variant, NMD_R1 uses a gum or carbon rubber outsole. The geometry found in performance products does not have a ‘stretch web’ layout, but one that balances outsourced flexibility with hard-wearing zones. NMD’s outsole adds width and rigidity via mid-foot. This means that the NMD_R1 has a different ride quality than the Ultraboost. It makes the heel slightly firmer and more supportive. Here is why:

Adidas Nmd R1 Durability

You can be sure that nothing will happen to NMD’s boost cushioning. We have been reviewing shoes with Boost Mitzols for over five years now and we have not even seen an incident of Mid-sole failing.

Continental rubber is not part of the construction here, so you will not have an above-average outsole lifetime. At the same time, Adidas NMD R1’s rubber lasted 350 – 400 miles to give you useful life.

All of the above are loopholes, but no problem was reported in NMD_R1.
